What a great and unpredictable result for this year Boxing Day in English Premiere League! While other European countries enjoyed their Christmas holiday season, England still entertained world football fans with their game matches, a day after Christmas. And this year, I must say; what a wonderful result and great matches.
Boxing Day was started with 3 games at London as home teams; from middle table classification between West Ham and Reading; ended with shared a point between both teams played in London.
Tottenham Hospurs crashed Fulham with 5-1 scored by Robbie Keane, Tom Huddlestone and Jeramie Defoe. After lossing 1-2 by Arsenal in the previous game, Hospurs played very efficient and didn’t give Fulham a chance to developed their game. While in Stamford Bridge, Chelsea unable to defend their winning after shared a point with Aston Villa with score 4-4 until the last 2 minutes. The Villans began the game with gave home fans a shock after Shaun Maloney scored in the early of game. The home fans became very unsecured after Frank Lampard was replaced by Michael Ballack in the 25th minutes, because of an injury. Then the game became very interesting when both teams catch-up each other, but until the final whistle; the score tight-up by 4-4. What a disappointment by Avant’s team when they need a full point to catch-up with Arsenal and MU in the top of the table.
The next big game was between Sunderland vs MU in Stadium of Light, where Rooney started their Christmas celebration with a goal in 20th minutes. He also gave an assist to Louis Saha to score 10 minutes after. Ronaldo also scored a minute before half time with his free-kick in the 45th minutes; although he was replaced by Park Ji-Sung in the 57th minutes because of an injury. And at last Saha added Man.United goal in the 86th minutes from penatly spot after Nani was booked by Danny Collins. With additional 3 points, MU leave Arsenal 2 points ahead while Arsenal played a couple hours ahead.
But at the end of the day, MU step-up as a half season champion with 1 point lead with Arsenal, after The Gunners shared their point with Portsmouth 0-0. Arsenal’s manager; Arsene Wenger spoke; ‘After 26 December, we only loose once and we’re at second place with a point behind. It’s not bad at all’. The Gunners deserved a win because they controlled the whole game from the beginning, but it’s difficult to score since Porthsmouth put their 10 man as full defence.
